You’re about to be introduced to a team of seasoned professionals with one objective in mind: to help you succeed.
1. The First Conversation
When you reach out to Building Champions about hiring a coach, the first thing you’ll do is talk with a Client Success Associate. She’ll ask questions to gain an understanding of your role, the goals you’re reaching for, and what lies in the gaps between where you are and where you want to be. You’ll get a sense of what coaching can provide for you, and what you’ll need to invest to get the most out of a coaching relationship.
It sometimes becomes apparent that executive coaching isn’t the right solution for the client’s unique set of challenges. This could be because they’re not a good candidate for coaching, or it could be because their circumstances require more robust solutions.
We offer organization-wide coaching programs for those who wish to bring the culture of coaching to their entire team. We offer customized workshops and executive retreats for a more intensive face-to-face experience centered around your individual needs. We also offer assessments designed to increase your self-awareness, leading to specific plans for improvement. Of course, the benefits of these additional services are multiplied exponentially when done in combination with one-on-one coaching.
2. The Client/Coach Match
If coaching is something you would like to pursue, then the next step is to match you with the right coach. The client/coach relationship is at the heart of the coaching experience.
At Building Champions, we have over 20 coaches on staff, each coming from a successful career in their industry and possessing a unique set of strengths. The Client Success Associate is an expert in aligning your needs with the expertise, background, and personality of one of our coaches. You’ll be matched up with a coach whose real-life experience is relevant to your goals, and whose communication style and temperament is a good fit.
3. The Initial Interview
The next step is to schedule a 30-minute phone call with your potential coach. Whether you are across the street or on the other side of the globe, each coaching session is conducted over the phone. We’ve discovered through practice that this model not only allows for greater efficiency and flexibility, but it also gives us the freedom to match you up with the right coach, regardless of geography.
This initial conversation is driven by the coach, without a formal agenda. In this call, you’ll get a chance to ask the coach questions about their background and get a sense of whether they’re the right fit.
4. The Follow-Up Conversation
Following the Initial Interview, you’ll reconnect with the Client Success Associate to debrief your conversation with the coach. If it wasn’t a good match, they can set up an interview with another coach. But if you connected with the coach and are ready to move forward, then you’ll have a few action items to complete before you begin coaching.
5. Paperwork With a Purpose
The Client Success Associate will send you your coaching contract, as well as a few items which will prepare both you and your coach for your first coaching session. These can be completed electronically for your convenience, but don’t rush through the questionnaire. The more your coach understands your current reality from the beginning, the more effective they can be in addressing your needs right away.
Once you’ve completed your initial paperwork, you’ll speak with your coach’s assistant to create your coaching schedule. You’ll collaborate to find a time that works for both you and your coach, with regular sessions scheduled every other week for 12 months. Your sessions will occur often enough to keep you on track, but not so often that they become redundant or a burden on your busy schedule.
Your coach’s assistant will be a great resource to you throughout the year — not only for scheduling needs but also for additional accountability and follow-up. They are greatly invested in your success and work hard to make sure your sessions run smoothly.
7. The First Session
Finally, your coaching relationship begins. Your first session will be longer than the rest, allowing time to set mutual expectations and lay the groundwork for success in the year ahead. You’ll establish what your goals are, what a favorable outcome of coaching looks like to you, and how you’ll measure your progress.
Coaching proceeds from there within a proven framework. The first thing you’ll do is complete the Core 4: Life Planning, Business Vision, Business Planning, and Priority Management, in that order. Each client moves through these components at their own pace, but all clients complete these foundational tools. However, within that structure, there are as many different ways to move through the Core 4 and beyond as there are clients.
Coaching is not a one-size-fits-all, systematized program. It’s a relationship with a trusted advisor who has been where you want to go and knows what it will take for you to get there. A sounding board who has no ulterior motives, just a vested interest in your success.
